Carbon Steel BS 3603 pipes consist mainly of iron, with carbon content between 0.30% and 0.60%, and manganese (0.60% to 1.20%), silicon, and small amounts of sulfur and phosphorus. The pipes have very good mechanical properties, such as tensile strength between 510–650 MPa, yield strength of 285 MPa (minimum), and elongation of more than 20%. They are known for their corrosion resistance and high strength, and they are also weldable and durable and hence used for medium to high-pressure applications in power generation, oil and gas, and chemical processing.
