Stainless Steel 422 Tubing is a martensitic stainless steel hardenable alloy with major components chromium (11–13%), molybdenum (0.5–1%), tungsten (0.75–1.25%), vanadium (0.2–0.3%), and carbon (up to 0.25%), with iron in the remaining percentage. It possesses good oxidation resistance and excellent high-temperature strength. SS 422 contains high tensile strength (up to 1035 MPa), yield strength of about 690 MPa, and sufficient creep resistance at higher temperatures. It is heat treatable, increasing hardness and toughness, and can retain mechanical integrity at temperatures above 600°C, rendering it extremely suitable for severe thermal and structural uses.
