Stainless Steel 316 and 316L Welded Pipes are austenitic stainless steels containing chromium (16–18%), nickel (10–14%), and molybdenum (2–3%). The most significant difference is the carbon content—316L contains a maximum of 0.03% carbon, improving weldability and reducing carbide precipitation. Both grades are good corrosion resisters, particularly in chloride and marine atmospheres. SS 316/316L pipes possess tensile strengths of 485 to 620 MPa and yield strengths of 170 to 310 MPa, varying with condition. They also possess good elongation and toughness, which makes them ideal for both cryogenic and high-temperature applications involving consistent structural performance.
