Stainless Steel 317 and 317L Welded Tubing are molybdenum-containing austenitic stainless steels with a higher chromium (18–20%) and nickel (11–15%) composition than 316, together with 3–4% molybdenum for higher corrosion resistance. 317L is the low-carbon grade with enhanced weldability and reduced corrosion sensitivity to intergranular attack. The tubes usually provide tensile strength of approximately 515 MPa, yield strength of 205 MPa, and elongation of approximately 35%. The material has very good strength, toughness, and pitting and crevice corrosion resistance and can be used for aggressive applications involving corrosive chemicals and high temperatures.
