SAE 1026 Tubing consists mainly of 0.22–0.28% carbon, 0.60–0.90% manganese, and trace amounts of phosphorus and sulfur. This composition provides the material greater strength than lower-carbon steels without sacrificing weldability and machinability. The tubing has tensile strength of 620–880 MPa, yield strength of 415 MPa, and excellent elongation and impact resistance. SAE 1026 tubing is also heat-treated for increased strength and hardness so that it becomes appropriate for situations where more endurance under mechanical forces is needed, without compromising on toughness and formability.
