Stainless Steel 317 and 317L Instrumentation Tubing are austenitic stainless steels with chromium (18–20%), nickel (11–15%), and molybdenum (3–4%), with 317L having reduced carbon content for enhanced weldability. These tubes have superior mechanical properties, such as tensile strength of about 75 ksi, yield strength of at least 30 ksi, and elongation of about 35%. The content of molybdenum adds resistance against pitting, crevice corrosion, and attack by chemicals, especially in chlorides and acids, and so they can be used in critical industrial processes.
