Nitinol Tubes consist mainly of about 55% nickel and 45% titanium, although precise ratios can be tailored to suit certain properties. The exceptional properties of the material are shape memory—returning to a pre-typed shape when heated—and superelasticity, which enable it to develop very large deformations and then spring back as if never deformed. Nitinol has tensile strength up to 1000 MPa, yield strength of around 195–690 MPa, and very good fatigue life. Its transformation temperature, at which it transitions between austenite and martensite states, can be accurately regulated. Nitinol is also corrosion-resistant and biocompatible, and it possesses superior mechanical performance under dynamic conditions.
